Niantic Labs will finish first the global rollout of Pokemon Go before it comes out with new characters. The new creatures would be seen at events in which players would come together, said Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke.
Hanke said the introduction of new Pokemons and holding events where the new characters would be showcased would take place in “a synchronized way going forward,” reported CNET. He assured the events would be part of Niantic’s future, but the company is waiting first for the launch craziness to subside.
Putting an event for more than 10,000 people is hard work, Hanke said. Part of the reason for holding off the introduction of new characters is not to have a repeat of its U.S. launch when Pokemon Go blew out all of Niantic’s Google Cloud Platform capacity which the company reserved for its eventual global launch.
To address the problem, Hanke sent an emergency email to Google CEO Sundar Pichai to ask for reinforcements. A Google Cloud team provided Pokemon Go with additional server capacity. Since then, the load on Pokemon Go has leveled out which allowed Niantic to work on launching the augmented reality game in more countries.
The leveling off is supported by data that the game’s paying population in the U.S. has dropped by 79 percent since the peak of in-game buyers on July 15. Since then, the numbers of buyers in the mobile market has gone back to pre-Pokemon Go levels, reported Slice Intelligence.
Despite the passing of the peak, Pokemon Go still cornered 28 percent of money generated in the mobile game market. It is six times the income made by the second most profitable game, the previous leader Candy Crush Saga, which got only 4.5 percent. It was followed by Candy Crush Soda Saga (3.5 percent), Game of War – Fire Age (2.9 percent), Mobile Strike (2.6 percent), Clash of Clans (2.5 percent) and Clash Royale (2.2 percent).
