China’s media watchdog has once again censored cleavage-showing scenes in a TV series in the wake of changes enforced to Fan Bingbing’s historical drama, “The Empress of China.”
The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) decided that some scenes in Shenzen Television's "The Investiture of the Gods" are too revealing for the Chinese audience and has imposed that the producers do something about it.
In response, the makers of the mythical TV series have replaced scenes showing women's cleavage with close-up shots of the actresses' heads, the same thing that happened to "The Empress of China" starring Fan Bingbing.
But despite the changes made, screenshots of the lead actress' exposed cleavages while suited in her risqué dresses are still circulating online.
"Before this series went on air, it was already edited according to the rules and regulations of SARFT. Adjustments were made again upon request of SARFT," representatives of the Shenzhen Television explained in a report from Guangdong-based newspaper, Xin Kuai Bao.
Unlike "The Empress of China," the original and uncensored version of "The Investiture of the Gods" is still being streamed online, while the "clean" version takes on the audience's TV sets.
"The Investiture of the Gods" stars Chinese actress Li Yixiao, who plays the protagonist of the show; Concubine Daji was the subject of many of the censored scenes.
Some concerned netizens noticed this with one even noting her revealing costumes.
"Concubine Daji, please take care and put on some more clothes as the weather is getting colder. Otherwise, I truly worry about your future!" one post stated, clearly referring to the SARFT's censorship of the show.
