South Korean actress Han Hyo-Joo will emcee the 21st Busan International Film Festival. The annual event will run from Oct. 6 until Oct. 15.
The "Dong Yi" actress will co-host the prestigious ceremony with veteran actor Sul Kyung-Gu, whom she co-starred with in 2013's "Cold Eyes," The Kpop Herald reported. Han reportedly rejected the offer from the festival's committee a few times before finally accepting it.
Details about the 21st Busan International Film Festival has been kept secret. What is known is that it will screen 301 feature and short films from 69 nations in five cinemas.
Zhang Lu's "A Quiet Dream," starring Han Ye-Ri, Yang Ik-June, Yoon Jung-Bin and Park Jung-Bum, will open this year's Busan International Film Festival. It is the first Korean opening film of the annual festival after Song Il-Gon's "Always" in 2011.
"This year's festival will serve as an opportunity to find the path for the next 20 years," Yonhap News Agency quoted Busan International Film Festival executive director Kang Soo-Young as saying during a news conference in Seoul on Sept. 6. "We'll redouble our efforts to make it a festival to lead the new currents of Asia and Korean films."
Meanwhile, Han, who began her acting career in the sitcom "Nonstop 5," recently returned to the spotlight with MBC's fantasy drama "W - Two Worlds." In the drama, Han portrayed a cardiothoracic surgeon, Oh Yeon-Joo, who is the daughter of the comic artist (Kim Eui-Sung) that created the famous webtoon series "W."
Oh Yeon Joo suddenly gets sucked into the webtoon universe by Kang Chul (Lee Jong-Suk) and manage to save him a few times because of her capacity to go back and forth between the two alternate timelines. As the story progresses, Oh Yeon Joo and Kang Chul fall in love.
Helmed by Jung Dae-Yoon, "W - Two Worlds" recently aired its finale episode on Sept. 14, Wednesday. The 16th episode recorded 10.9 percent ratings in the Seoul National Capital Area.
