Exciting things are set to happen in the upcoming Season 13 of ABC's long-running TV series "Grey's Anatomy." The latest spoilers one of the series' showrunners indicated that the character Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) may have a hard time cheating death following a brutal attack.
Avid viewers of "Grey's Anatomy" may recall that Alex Karev (Justin Chamber) attacked Andrew in the Season 12 finale after a misunderstanding following Jo Wilson's (Camilla Luddington) revelation about her past. The previously released trailer for the upcoming Season 13 premiere showed a glimpse of Andrew fighting for his life in the hospital.
In an interview with E! News, "Grey's Anatomy" director and executive producer Debbie Allen was asked whether fans should be concerned about Andrew's condition. The showrunner simply replied, "Yeah."
Allen said Andrew's life may be on the line after Alex's attack. However, she did not disclose other details about Andrew's brush with death.
The showrunner even made mention of the new season's exciting and more dynamic plot lines. She noted that viewers should prepare themselves for a "hot" Season 13 opening. She added, "It's something that'll knock your socks off, take your breath away, and make you want to keep watching."
On the other hand, showrunner Shonda Rhimes shared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming new season of the ABC show will feature a look at the backstory of Jo, who has been on the run from her abusive husband. According to Rhimes, Season 13 appears to be the right time to unveil Jo's past and how it connects with Alex.
Rhimes explained that she found Wilson's life story interesting given the way that the character has managed to survive and reinvent herself despite her previous married life. Jo would need to show just how strong she has become as she is set to revisit her abusive past in the new season, Rhimes stated.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will premiere on Sept. 22, Thursday, on ABC. Watch the teaser for the show's upcoming season premiere:
