The midseason 6 finale of "Suits" showed several story developments that included Mike Ross' early release from prison and Jessica Pearson's law firm exit. Latest updates for Season 6 have teased of Mike's future, as well as cast member Gina Torres' thoughts on her departure from the show.
Many fans were saddened when the midseason 6 finale of "Suits" that aired on Sept. 14, Wednesday, served as Torres' last episode for the USA Network series. The actress portrayed Jessica, one of the partners for the law firm Pearson Specter Litt.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that her exit from the show has been something that she and showrunner Aaron Korsh has previously discussed. However, Torres' eventually arrived at the decision to leave "Suits" for personal family reasons. The actress made mention of how her family resides in Los Angeles while the USA Network show's filming location has been in Canada's Toronto.
Torres also shared her happiness about her character's growth in the past six seasons. The actress explained that Jessica has reached a point where she would like to discover the things that would really make her happy. Torres added, "I think that's such an important message to send out there ... everyone who's out there busting their b--- day in and day out and ask themselves that question."
When asked whether the actress would reprise her role as a special guest for upcoming "Suits" episodes, Torres replied that she is willing to revisit her character. She also teased that Gabriel Macht's Harvey and Rick Hoffman's Louis may potentially need Jessica's help in future episodes.
The same sentiment was shared by showrunner Korsh in an interview with TVLine. He also teased of Jessica's potential reappearance in "Suits." He commented that he will never say goodbye to Torres' character until the series has reached its final chapter.
Apart from commenting on Torres' exit, Korsh has also hinted of Mike's (Patrick J. Adams) future in the USA Network series. He mentioned that Mike would have to deal with his guilt of being let out of prison early, as well as his plan to do good deeds but not as a corporate lawyer. Adams' character would also have to decide whether he will accept Harvey's job offer and assess the consequences of his decision.
The second half of "Suits" Season 6 is expected to premiere in early 2017.
