"Fifty Shades Darker" does not hit theaters until next year but the sequel to "Fifty Shades of Grey" has already started breaking records.

Universal announced that the first official trailer of the highly anticipated film had been viewed a whopping 114 million times on its first day of release, making it the most-viewed trailer in the first 24 hours of being published on the Internet, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The trailer, which debuted on Wednesday (Sept. 14) at 8 a.m. PT, amassed the enormous number of hits across several digital platforms including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

"Fifty Shades Darker," which is the second film adaptation from E L James' erotic novel series, garnered more than 2.5 million views within the very first hour on the film's official Facebook page alone.

The record was previously held by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which accumulated 112 million views in the first 24 hours of its release.

The trailer received 39.4 million views from the North American region, while the remaining 74.6 million hits came from more than 30 countries that supported localized trailers. U.K. came in second place with 18.9 million views, followed by Brazil (12.4 million), France (9.8 million), Mexico (6.8 million) and Italy (6 million), Deadline reported.

The film, which revolves around Christian Grey's (Jamie Dornan) attempts to woo Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) back into his life, also stars newcomer Kim Basinger as Mr. Grey's sexual mentor Elena Lincoln.

"Fifty Shades Darker" is directed by James Foley off a script penned by Niall Leonard and is slated to hit theaters on on Feb. 10, 2017.

The trailer, set to Miguel's version of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love," features everything from a steamy shower sex scene to a masquerade ball.

"What do you want Anastasia," Christian asks in the trailer, to which she replies, "This time, no rules, no punishments and no mercy grants."
