Apart from Cumberbatch, the upcoming Marvel film will include the Academy Award-winning actress Tilda Swinton who will portray the role of the Ancient One. The said character will serve as Strange's mentor in the world of magic.
Although Swinton's casting has gained some backlash from fans given the character's original Asian ethnic background in the "Doctor Strange" comic books. However, director Scott Derrickson defended the actress's casting in an interview with Los Angeles Daily News. He made mention of introducing diversity in films and that Swinton's role as the Ancient One has been a conscious decision among the movie's showrunners.
