Fans waiting for "American Gothic" Season 2 may still have to wait for some time, whether the CBS mystery drama will be renewed or not. Season 2 may get a renewal or cancellation after the show garnered mixed reviews from critics and fans but remained on the same ratings.

The "American Gothic" Season 1 finale wrapped up with much mystery and suspense that everyone ended as a suspect. It was the show's tactic to keep the Silver Bell Killer's identity so viewers will be hooked into their seats, Screen Rant reported. To everyone's shock, it was Alison Hawthorne (Juliet Rylance), who commanded Sophie Hawthorne (Stephanie Leonidas) to kill Madeleine Hawthorne (Virginia Madsen).

Season 1 debuts to a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.43 million viewers. Episode 2 scored the highest rating with 0.70 and 3.581 viewers before it reached flat ratings of 2.3 million viewers from episode 8. It progressed to 2.5 million viewers in episode 10 and attained same ratings throughout the end of the show, according to TV Series Finale.

Given the flat ratings of "American Gothic," the show received mixed reviews of the Season 1 finale from fans and critics. Critics labeled it as mediocre and somewhat like a "revenge" type. Fans, on the other hand, praised its ending and expressed their excitement for "American Gothic" Season 2 in the social media.

Amidst the guessing game whether there will be "American Gothic" Season 2, first-time showrunner Corinne Brinkerhoff already talked earlier about her plans for the upcoming seasons. She disclosed that the first five or six seasons will have the same themes with different family, mystery and setting.

The show has been advertised as a 13-part murder mystery, which Brinkerhoff assured a resolution in every ending. She also expressed her earlier plan on ending the Season 1 finale with a great story before they come up with a new season.

Ahead of a looming "American Gothic" Season 2, AMC Networks International Iberia and CBS International reportedly signed to a deal to air the mystery TV series in Spain and Portugal. CBS has yet to make an announcement on the latest news and whether the show will be renewed.
