KBS 2TV's "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" will now be getting its own musical adaptation in South Korea. The historical drama, which premiered on Aug. 22, stars Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung.
On Sept. 21, Wednesday, an unnamed source claimed that the musical rights to "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" have been sold to KBS Media, an auxiliary of KBS, according to a local newsoutlet Inews24, as cited by Soompi. It is said to be the first musical produced by KBS Media.
"It's true that we acquired the musical rights," a source from KBS Media said. "We are currently in the stage of planning for a musical production. Although KBS Media has been a drama production company, we hope to make a mark on the musical industry with this production."
The KBS 2TV series has been one of the hit South Korean dramas that posted strong viewership ratings. The tenth episode of "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds," which aired on Sept. 20, recorded a national rating of 20.2 percent.
The show's relentless increase in viewership ratings is attributed to its strong story content, A-list cast members, as well as Park and Kim's undeniable on-screen chemistry. Recently, Park and Kim expressed gratitude to the fans for supporting the drama through a video message that KBS released on its social networking services on Sept. 14, All Kpop reported.
"We've gotten a 20% viewer rating due to the power of your support," said Park and Kim. "Thank you for giving us so much love and interest."
The two Hallyu stars then finished their video message with an invitation to fans to keep watching KBS 2TV's "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds." The drama is based on the web novel of the same name written by Yoon Yi-Soo.
Helmed by program director Kim Sung-Yoon, the 18-episode historical drama also stars Jinyoung, Chae Soo Bin, Kwak Dong Yeon, Kim Seung Su and Jeon Mi Sun. Check out the latest episode of "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" below:
