ZE:A's Siwan and Girls' Generation's Yoona have been cast as the leads in the upcoming historical drama, tentatively titled "The King Loves." The upcoming period drama will be directed by Kim Sang Hyup.
Siwan has been cast to play the Crown Prince of Goryeo, Wang Won, whose good looks and eloquence apparently hide his barbarous and ambitious nature, Soompi reported. He has the wisdom of a snake, a stunning disposition that makes him good at attracting people to his side.
Girls' Generation's Yoona plays a woman of deadly charm, Wang San, who is the daughter of the wealthiest man in town. She is the love interest of Wang Woon and Wang Lin aka Ryn, the childhood friend, and bodyguard of the crown prince.
Based on Kim Yi-Ryung's novel of the same name, the story of "The King Loves" will revolve around Crown Prince Wang Won's rebellion. It will also follow the beautiful but tragic love story that involves his closest friend and the woman they both love.
The period drama is currently in talks with MBC. It will be 100 percent pre-produced and will start filming in late December with an intended air date in March 2017, Drama Beans has learned. More details about the project will be revealed soon.
"The King Loves" marks Siwan's comeback to the small screen since 2014's "Incomplete Life" (Misaeng). Girls' Generation's Yoona, on the other hand, currently portrays Go Anna in tvN's "The K2."
Yoona's character is said to be an illegitimate daughter of a presidential candidate, Jang Se-Joon (Jo Sung-Ha). She comes back to Korea from Spain by chance and gets entangled with a hired mercenary, Kim Je-Ha (Ji Chang-Wook).
Things will get worse with the arrival of the presidential candidate's wife, Choi Yoo-Jin (Song Yun-Ah), who is the eldest daughter of a chaebol family. She is ambitious and merciless and has her sights set on becoming the First Lady.
