Despite its high viewership ratings, KBS 2TV's "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" will not be extended and will only air 18-episode as originally planned. The historical drama star Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung as Crown Prince Lee Yeong and Hong Ra-On, respectively.
In early September, several reports claimed that "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" will get a two-episode extension due to the immense popularity and love it has been receiving. The historical drama just reached the 20 percent milestone ratings.
News on "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" not getting an extension was revealed on Korean newsoutlet News Nate, as cited by Soompi. It is said that KBS discussed the possibility of extending the historical drama but decided not to.
"It's true that 'Moonlight Drawn By Clouds' was in talks to be extended by two episodes," a source from KBS told the local newsoutlet. "But the final decision is that there will be no extension and it will end with 18 episodes."
The KBS 2TV drama is scheduled to air its finale episode on Oct. 18. The sad news comes after reports claiming "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" will get its own musical adaptation in South Korea.
On Sept. 21, Wednesday, an unnamed source claimed that the musical rights to "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" have been sold to KBS Media, an auxiliary of KBS, Korea's Inews24 reported. It is the first musical produced by KBS Media.
A source from KBS Media claimed that they are currently in the phase of planning for a musical production. Although KBS Media has been a drama production company, they hope to make a mark on the musical industry with "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds."
Helmed by Kim Sung-Yoon and Baek Sang-Hoon, the story of "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" revolves around Crown Prince Lee Yeong's growth from a boy to a respected monarch. It also follows his unlikely relationship with his political eunuch, Hong Ra-On.
