Microsoft is still quitter regarding the Surface Phone release date or even its existence but new leaked information shows that the device will contain a fingerprint sensor.

Most Android smartphones and even iPhones today with fingerprint sensors are increasingly becoming more common which means that the Surface Phone fingerprint sensor rumors make sense. The Redmond-based company has already failed with their attempt at the mobile industry with their Nokia deal and should be extra careful in releasing a new smartphone.

Leakers claim that Microsoft has filed for a patent for "fingerprint detection with transparent cover" which could mean that the Surface Phone will have the said feature, iTech Post has learned. The technology shown could also make the phone thinner compared to other smartphones as there will be no bulky sensor found in the device.

Microsoft Surface Phone Specs and Features

All of the Surface Phone rumors and speculations do agree on the same things with regards to the hardware under the hood. The said device could be powered by an Intel Kaby Lake processor bundled with up to 8GB RAM.

The Microsoft Surface Phone is also expected to sport a 5.5-inch AMOLED display for one variant and six inches for the second variant, Mobile & Apps reported. Lower-end variants could get 4GB Ram instead of the 8GB RAM on the larger smartphone model.

In terms of the photography capabilities, rumors say that the smartphone will have a 21MP sensor for the rear. It could be capable of capturing 4K considering that it would not be released until 2017 if the speculations are to be believed.

Besides the Microsoft Surface Phone, fans are also waiting for the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2. There are leaked photos for the company's rumored laptop hybrid model but the rest are just speculations and rumors.

Microsoft's patent filing could simply mean that they are planning to capitalize on the technology in their future ventures but optimists believe that it could be one indication that the Surface Phone is in development. The fingerprint sensor could also be found in the Surface Pro 5 or Surface Book 2 devices when they eventually do come out.
