JTBC has reduced the storyline for Ji Soo's character in the ongoing melodrama "Fantastic." The 23-year-old actor portrays a young and aspiring lawyer, Kim Sang-Wook.
On Sept. 23, Friday, JTBC's "Fantastic" held a press conference to talk about Ji's current health. Speaking before a group of local reporters, producer Song Won Seob stated Ji's condition has improved significantly.
The producer added that the "Page Turner" actor will resume filming once he is ready. However, it cannot be helped that his screen time in the ongoing drama will decrease.
"I think it will be regrettable for Park Si Yeon," Soompi quoted producer Song as saying. "However, his character's personality and importance will not change."
In the drama, Ji's character has a crush on Baek Sul (Park Si-Yeon) after a motorcycle ride with her. The latter is said to be a spouse of a congressman who is living a very unhappy life.
It can be recalled Ji was diagnosed with acute osteomyelitis, an inflammation of bone marrow due to bacterial invasion, on Sept. 13. At the time, he underwent an emergency surgery.
Nonetheless, fans can still watch Ji in SBS' "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo." In the historical drama, he plays the forthright and sincere 14th Prince, Wang Jung, who is the favored son of Queen Yoo (Park Ji-Young).
The SBS drama, which premiered on Aug. 29, garnered more than 1.1 billion views in a Chinese streaming site Youku. In a statement obtained by Hello Kpop, Senior Vice President and Head, Content, Production & Marketing for Sony Pictures Television Networks Asia, Virginia Lim, stated that extensive publicity efforts have prompted the success of "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo."
"The extensive promotional and publicity efforts by ONE," said Lim. "The thrill of being able to catch the drama at the same time as Korea for the first time ever in Southeast Asia has helped to boost 'Scarlet Heart's' ratings."
