Naughty Dog has officially confirmed that there will be a "The Last of Us 2" title but the release date seems to be too far off for fans to get excited.
Neil Druckmann, the creative director and programmer for Naughty Dog, revealed earlier that they are focused in developing the single player "Uncharted 4" DLC before they even work on The Last Of Us 2. The game's sequel seems to be quite late already considering that the original title was first released in 2013 for the PlayStation 4 and it became a huge hit.
Druckmann said in an interview with The Frame that The Last Of Us 2 release date will be set in 2021 which is a few years from now plus updates are not expected until 2018, Gamenguide has learned. Naughty Dog seems to be busy with making Uncharted 4 expansions for PS4 players as the game is still at the top video game charts across the globe.
Despite the long wait for The Last Of Us 2, fans are glad to know that the developers are not cancelling the game after all. Several reports have claimed that the game will be cancelled because there were no updates given by the company yet but those have been laid to rest.
Naughty Dog could also be working on a new IP after the Uncharted 4 DLC has been released which explains the delay in The Last Of Us 2 development, The Inquisitr reported. There are also claims that the delay is because the developers are waiting for the next generation of the consoles.
Sony has already unveiled the new PlayStation 4 Pro but it is not considered to be an entirely new console. Even Microsoft will be releasing their Project Scorpio in 2017 which is basically just an upgraded version of the current Xbox One and even then it would not be considered as the new generation.
The Last Of Us 2 development could start in 2018 as Druckmann said and fans should not be worried considering that the first game was a huge hit for the PS4. Plot details, new characters and more enemies are expected to be announced before 2021.
