One of the most prestigious film awards in China took place on Saturday night in Tangshan City, Hebei Province.
The major awards went to Xu Qing who bagged the best actress trophy for her role in “Mr. Six,” a crime drama. For best actor, the award went to “The Wolf Totem” actor Feng Shaofeng at the 33rd Hundred Flowers Awards, reported China Entertainment.
Li Yifeng was recognized as best supporting actor also for “Mr. Six,” while Angelbaby won the best supporting actress award for her role in “Mojin – The Lost Legend,” which won for Wu Ershan the best director award. The best screenplay trophy went to “The Dead End.”
There were 10 shortlisted films from which the 101 public jury members were picked from 26 million voters in China. They cast their ballots on late Friday.
However, Global Time reported that the Hundred Flower Awards and Golden Rooster have been criticized for giving the biggest awards to young popular stars rather than performers with superior acting skills. The two awards combined in 1992, with the two sub-festival rotating the organizing of the event based on the last number of the year.
Among the awardees criticized was Li Yifeng who won over Duan Yihong of “The Dead End” and Zhang Yu of “Dearest.” Also questioned was Feng Shaofeng’s victory over Feng Xiaogang of “Mr. Six,” Huang Bo of “Dearest” and Deng Chao of “The Dead End.”
Despite her popularity Angelbaby, also known as Yang Ying, was also dissed for her mediocre acting in “Mojin – The Lost Legend.”
