Apple could be launching their own Siri smart speaker to take on the Amazon Echo Dot which currently is the most famous digital assistant-powered device in the market today.
Even Google is set to reveal their own Echo speaker competitor in October 4 as rumors of an Apple Siri smart speaker also spread. Coming off the heels of the new iOS 10 update with the iPhone 7, the Siri-powered speaker would also include a camera which would be used for video recognition.
The Cupertino-based tech giant has not confirmed the rumors yet but their decision to capitalize on Siri still makes sense. Apple's Siri speaker could also act as a control hub for IoT enabled products through a Home App, Daily Tech has learned.
Smart devices have started to pick up the pace especially as they became cheaper to produce. The Siri speaker could be one of the many smart hubs available with more features.
Apple's Siri speaker will also be integrated with other iOS devices such as an iPhone or an iPad. Siri will be able to read the emails and even send text messages through the speaker alone and presumably through voice commands as well.
Bloomberg claims that the Siri speaker will have voice controls for Apple Music and HomeKit for a seamless experience, CNET reported. Developers are also reportedly working on improving the conversational intelligence of Siri which is known to be her weakness compared to Amazon's Alexa digital assistant.
The camera in the speaker could also add more depth to the digital assistant experience in more ways than one. For instance, the speaker could recognize the user when they arrive home and instantly greet them plus turn the lights on for them.
Another potential use for the video recognition is for users to be able to make gestures besides just using voice controls. A simple wave of the hand could turn the lights off or turn the thermostat up.Apple did not comment on the Siri speaker rumors but their silence could mean that the product does exist. More updates are expected in the following months as the device could be in its early stages.
