Will Pangu or iH8sn0w release an iOS 10 jailbreak anytime soon? It could be that they are working on something but for a full jailbreak to be made public rea soon is a different story, this according to well-known JB developers Luca Todesco and Jay Freeman or better known as Cydia creator Saurik.
The two jailbreak personalities were recently interviewed by iDigitalTimes and both confirmed that jailbreak works are underway, specifically involving Team Pangu and Todesco. The update aligns with the recent reports that iOS 10 can be jailbroken and there were two proofs to prove that point.
The first was when Pangu demoed Cydia, which is the jailbreak world's repository of JB apps and tweaks, running on an iOS 10 beta build. Then just recently, Todesco generously shared a clip of an iPhone 7 in jailbroken status.
But that big question that lingers: Where is the untethered jailbreak, if not an iOS 10-based at least the follow up to iOS 9.2-9.3.3?
The answer is simple, according to Saurik - despite what was showcased months ago, Pangu is yet to complete the next jailbreak. The Cydia creator also reminded that the last JB tool from the Chinese hacking group was semi-tethered so it is likely that the team would want the next release to be a full jailbreak form.
Saurik added that even in the event that jailbreak has been finalized, it's possible that Pangu is looking for the right time to make its latest creation public. "Essentially jailbreak releases go like this: you sit around trying to find bugs until you find a full stack, and then you look at Apple's release timing and see when it might make sense to push a public jailbreak," the Cydia developer was quoted by iDigitalTimes as saying.
And he reminded too that the next jailbreak release will likely come from Pangu only, noting that "I have not seen signs of other legitimate efforts to jailbreak iOS 10."
As for Todesco, the security researcher said that memory security protection protocols found on both the iOS 10 and iPhone 7 seem to make jailbreaking a more complicated task than before. It's like saying that coming up with a JB tool is proving harder than ever but Todesco hinted that a jailbreak could soon be delivered via Safari.
"I plan on doing Safari research at some point ... but right now I'm all about KPP/iPhone 7 memory protections," the dev told iDigitalTimes.
So in reading between the lines, it is safe to assume that whether coming from Team Pangu, iH8sn0w or Luca Todesco, an iOS 10 jailbreak release is not happening anytime soon.
