GOT7's Jinyoung has a new big drama offer on his plate. The 22-year-old singer is being courted to join Lee Min-Ho and Jun Ji-Hyun in the upcoming SBS drama "Legend of the Blue Sea."
On Sept. 30, Friday, several local newsoutlet reported that the GOT7 member is receiving a lot of love calls from various projects at home and abroad. In particular, Jinyoung is in talks to join the A-list cast of SBS's upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama.
A representative from JYP Entertainment revealed to Soompi that Jinyoung received an offer from the show's production crew and that the singer is still reviewing the offer favorably. If he does end up accepting the offer, Jinyoung will play the younger version of Lee's character.
With program director Jin Hyuk at the helm, "Legend of the Blue Sea" follows a local officer, Kim Dam Lim (Lee), who releases mermaids into the oceans. A fisherman then catches one of those mermaids.
In the drama, "The Heirs" actor is slated to play a genius con-artist, Heo Jun-Jae, who poses as a lawyer, businessman or doctor to trick others. "My Love From The Star" actress, on the other hand, will transform into a mermaid, Sim Chung, who is struggling to adapt a human life.
Aside from the above mentioned characters, "Legend of the Blue Sea" also stars Moon So-Ri as Ahn Jin-Joo, Lee Hee-Joon as Jo Nam-Doo and Shin Hye-Sun as Cha Si-A. Filming for the SBS drama kicked off on Aug. 19 in Goesen, Chungbuk.
Since the drama's content involves exotic coasts, the production team traveled to Palau in late August to film several underwater scenes. A couple of pivotal scenes were also filmed in Girona and Coruna, Spain, respectively.
In a recent interview with Drama Fever, Lee revealed the factors why he chose to star in the upcoming drama. It is worth noting that the "Legend of the Blue Sea" marks his small-screen comeback after three years.
"I think this will be a series that has an appropriate amount of fantasy," Lee explained. "Since the drama contains elements that are universally acknowledged, I think that this project will give off a more familiar feel to the viewers."
SBS's "Legend of the Blue Sea" is intended to hit the airwaves sometime in November. Check out the full interview below:
