Fans are now disappointed as Cartoon Network officially announced that "Adventure Time" will be having its last season in 2018.
The animated series was well received by both young and mature audiences with their colorful animation and well-thought whimsical plot. Adventure Time follows the story of Finn the Human (Jeremy Shada) and Jake the Dog (John Di Maggio) in their adventures in the Land of Ooo which turns out to be a post-apocalyptic version of Earth.
There have eight seasons in total leading up to the final ninth season which is set to air over the next two years. "Adventure Time" Season 9 will also include several specials and miniseries which will still air in 2018, Deadline has learned.
All in all, "Adventure Time" is expected to have 142 episodes across all the nine seasons. Production is still ongoing for the last season but the series creator Pendleton Ward already has a statement regarding the end of Finn and Jake's adventures.
Ward said that "Adventure Time" was a "passion project" for their crew that worked on the animated series, Cartoon Brew reported. He added that all of them poured their heart and efforts to make the show what it is today.
"We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives and make a show that was personal to us and that had jokes, too! I'm really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It's a special thing, I think," Ward said.
"Adventure Time" aired its first episode in 2010 and has attracted wide range of audience since. Even the crew that worked on the series have evolved to showcase more of their talents in other shows such as "Clarence," "Over the Garden Wall" and "Steven Universe."
The series also spawned merch lines, video games and more. Cartoon Network Chief Content Officer Rob Sorcher said that "Adventure Time" has a "resounding impact" on the pop culture across the globe.
"Adventure Time" Season 9 release date has not been unveiled as the last season is currently in production. What is expected is that the last season and the specials will air throughout the next two years.
