"True Detective" Season 3's fate is not yet confirmed after the Season 2 finale concluded in August 2015. Up to this time, no updates have been heard of "True Detective" new installment, and it is feared to be axed after the last season failed to impress both viewers and critics.
Fans are now wondering if "True Detective" Season 3 is still possible after more than a year of the show's hiatus. Amidst HBO's silence, the new agreement signed by "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto with HBO signaled good news for viewers who are still eyeing to see the next season of the anthology crime drama, according to Variety.
An insider revealed that due to the less-than-stellar rating of Season 2, HBO is looking forward for new formulations of running the show. HBO reportedly gave Pizzolatto a number of alternatives while the latter remains the executive producer to improve the show. The choices include the creator working with new writers; welcoming a new showrunner; or if he will be carrying out the writing task alone.
The pilot season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson concluded with 3.52 million viewers while the sophomore season that starred Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams had an average of 2.71 million viewers. If the fate of the show is to be based on the ratings, "True Detective" Season 3 is unlikely to get a go signal.
"It is not dead," Entertainment Weekly quoted Bloys as saying at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills in July. "I talked to Nic about it and both Nic and HBO are open to another season. I don't think Nic has a take and he's working on some other projects.
While Pizzalatto is committed to a new project that reportedly stars Robert Downey Jr., New HBO programming chief Casey Bloys assured that Pizzalotto may be promoted to a supervisory level while other writers will be taking the responsibility of writing for "True Detective" Season 3.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo expressed his wish to work with the former for "True Detective Season" 3. As for Lombardo, the show's creator is one of the talented writers in Hollywood today that they are willing to collaborate with.
