This weekend, a photo showing a striped dress divided the internet into two factions: the white-and-golds and the blue-and-blacks. Even experts provided different explanations as to why people perceive the dress differently. Well, the owner of the dress has come forward with the truth: the dress is actually blue and black.
The photo of the dress was first posted by a Tumblr user after it sparked a debate between close friends. The often-inexplicable viral machine of the internet then took over, culminating in a couple of celebrities weighing in on the issue.
On Feb 26, celebrity extraordinaire Kim Kardashian tweeted: "What color is that dress? I see white & gold. Kanye sees black & blue, who is color blind?"
More celebrities offered opinions. Singer Taylor Swift tweeted that she felt the whole issue was a trick somehow, and that the dress was "obviously blue and black." Even Oscar 2015 Best Actress Winner Julianne Moore tweeted that she saw it as white & gold.
As reported by The Business Insider, the person responsible for all the hubbub has recently come out to put the speculations to rest by posting more photos of the dress online and it is, indeed, blue and black.
British company Roman Originals actually made the dress and even they released a video showing the blue and black outfit in all its lacey glory.
The dress also comes in white, pink and red designs, but all have black trimmings. There are no available white and gold counterparts of the dress, according to a report by The Daily Mail.
So why did so many people see white and gold? One expert offers a simple enough explanation: the photo was overexposed.
