Anything can happen in the world of "Once Upon a Time," whether it is good or bad. Robin Hood's return, however, spells more than just good news as it might actually help fight a big threat in Season 6.
It has been confirmed that Sean Maguire is reprising his role as Robin Hood in "Once Upon a Time" Season 6. The character was killed off by the end of the Season 5, after he sacrificed himself in order to save Regina.
Maguire's Robin Hood will appear in several episodes in the sixth season, but he is not really back from the dead, so to speak. Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, however, are quiet on the details of his return.
"We're thrilled to have Sean back for this story arc and are excited for the audience to see what we have planned," Horowitz and Kitsis revealed to EW.
They also teased that much of "Once Upon a Time" Season 6 will focus on Regina "dealing with loss and moving on."
"This was someone she did love, who she did lose. We hope that we deal with that grief and its aftermath in a real way," Horowitz and Kitsis shared, indicating that Regina will not fall in love with someone else in the new season.
Speaking of Regina, there are speculations that Robin Hood might be Regina's anchor to her humanity and that having him will keep her from giving in to her inner evil. It's already confirmed that the Evil Queen is back, which essentially spells trouble for everyone in Storybrooke.
The decision to bring back Robin Hood to Storybrooke this year is quite a surprise to fans, considering Horowitz and Kitsis previously shot down the possibility by saying that "dead is dead" on the show.
The news might also be quite a happy surprise for Maguire, who previously expressed his strong opinion on Robin Hood's death.
"I didn't feel the character had any development this year and wasn't really written for," Maguire told The Hollywood Reporter. "That was disappointing for people who liked Robin Hood and liked him and Regina together."
"Once Upon a Time" Season 6 airs every Sundays on ABC.
