"Marvel Heroes 2016" rolled out a new upgrade this week. In celebration of the Sept. 30 premiere of "Luke Cage" on Netflix, the Hero for Hire character is joining the character roster on "Marvel Heroes 2016."
New "Luke Cage" content is now available on "Marvel Heroes 2016," which include costumes, Heroes for Hire '97 Fortune Card and a team-up feature with Jessica Jones, to name a few.
According to the game's developer Ben Waggoner, they did an upgrade on Luke Cage's Modern and Classic outfits. They also did a touch up on Luke's costume on the Netflix series. "The team built his hooded sweatshirt look with some new, larger materials to make it stand out more than you would expect," Waggoner told Marvel about the upgrade.
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage teamed up on the first season of Netflix's "Jessica Jones." They were a supersized duo all thanks to their super-strength, street smarts and overall chemistry. These same elements that made Jessica and Luke win the hearts of viewers will be incorporated into "Marvel Heroes 2016."
"She is very melee oriented, much like Luke Cage, so they are in the fray, mixing it up with bad guys together a lot," Waggoner revealed about what to expect from Jessica and Luke's fighting style in-game. "They excel at throwing things like cars and chunks of concrete, which showcase their extraordinary strength."
The game will also feature a "Heroes for Hire" event, which brings together Luke Cage, Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Human Torch and Black Cat. The tournament is said to be very casual-player friendly.
In the meantime, "Luke Cage" has officially began streaming on Netflix. Due to the massive number of subscribers tuning in, Netflix went down for two straight hours.
So far, reviewers for "Luke Cage" are leaning towards the positive, with The Telegraph saying it is possibly Netflix's best Marvel show to date. That says a lot, considering the show is preceded by "Jessica Jones" and two seasons of "Daredevil."
Luke Cage will soon join Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Fist in the highly-awaited "The Defenders," which is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2017.
