Chinese and Greek leaders have both agreed to deepen cooperation at various levels between the two countries and respect each other's core interests following a meeting between Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan and Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos in Athens on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
Since the two countries established diplomatic relations 44 years ago, China and Greece have maintained good relations amid the dynamic international situations and achieved constant cooperation, according to Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, who conveyed President Xi Jinping's official message to Pavlopoulos, the report said.
Liu added that China is prepared for a closer cooperation at various levels with Greece and provide support to the country on various issues related to both their major interests and core values.
The CPC official said that, as two ancient civilizations in the world, both China and Greece must enhance dialogue and should share lessons while playing an active role in establishing major bilateral partnerships to preserve and foster peace, reform, growth, and civilization.
Meanwhile, Pavlopoulos expressed appreciation of China's support to help resolve Greece's debt crisis as well as the continuing development of the bilateral relationship between them.
According to Pavlopoulos, both Greece and China must take advantage of the cultural influence and lead other countries in giving importance to cultural exchanges.
Liu's official goodwill visit to Greece started on Sunday, Oct. 2. The CPC official met Greek parliamentary speaker Nikos Voutsis on Monday, Oct. 3.
Liu told Voutsis during their meeting that China and Greece should enhance cultural exchanges, which would he said would help deepen bilateral ties and make positive contributions to world peace and development.
The China-Europe Civilization Dialogue was held in Athens on Monday which both Liu and Voutsis attended.
