"24: Legacy" will see the return of a veteran character from the show, Tony Almeida, whose history span all the way back to the first season. Mary Lynn Rajskub is also rumored to make a return as Chloe O'Brian.
Kiefer Sutherland disappointed "24: Legacy" fans by turning down the opportunity for Jack Bauer to appear in the show. However, that did not mean other surviving characters from the original series cannot return.
According to TV Line, Almeida will reprise his role as Tony Almeida in "24 Legacy." The new action adventure series on FOX focuses on an all-new main character. Manny Coto and Evan Katz, "24: Legacy" showrunners said in a brief statement: "Tony Almeida is one of the most unfading personalities in the 24 universe," adding that Ameilda has done an amazing job as he has portrayed a dark and conflicted character in the show.
The show's panel at the New York Comic Con started off with a bang, as fans of the "24: Legacy" enjoyed an action-packed, 20-minute preview and heard from both executive producers and cast members about what is expected.
Although the producers revealed little about Almeida's role in the show, they noted that his role has long been planned. "You are lucky you got that," Coto said. Katz later noted that the show existed within the 24 universe and revealed that the storyline ended in "24: Live Another Day" when Jack Bauer "was carted off to Moscow".
Almeida has enjoyed a complicated history in the world of "24." The character was one of Jack Bauer's most trusted colleagues for four seasons but in the fifth one, he was hit hard by the death of his wife, Michelle Dessler (Reiko Aylesworth) who was killed by a car bomb.
The end of season 5 showed Almeida been killed by a lethal dose of hyoscine-pentothal and after sitting out season six entirely, he returned in the seventh season as a villain, working with a terrorist organization to blackmail the president.
"24: Legacy," a 12-episode series follows Eric Carter, played by Corey Hawkins and his wife Nicole, played by Anna Diop. Carter, a former army ranger, has just done his mission to take out Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid, a terrorist leader. Unfortunately, Bin-Khalid's gang finds out the rangers' identities and start picking them off one by one as they look for a stolen strongbox.
"24: Legacy" will debut on Sunday, Feb. 5 after Super Bowl 51 before moving to Monday nights at 8pm ET/PT.
