It seems that casting for “Train to Busan 2” is still fluid as changes in picking the actors for the major roles are reportedly still ongoing.
The latest news is that Gong Yoo would no longer be in the sequel. He would be replaced by Lee Min Ho, who would be joined by “Descendants of the Sun” actor Song Joong-ki, HNGN reported. Lee Min Ho is currently filming the upcoming drama “Legend of the Blue Sea” with actress Jun Ji Hyun.
Enstarz explained the replacement of Gong Yoo, the star of the original “Train to Busan” to his character, Seok Woo, a hedge fund manager, sacrificing his life to save his daughter Su-an (Kim Su-an). Toward the end of the movie, Seok Woo became a zombie and fell off the final rescue train.
The other speculation is that Song Joong-ki would get the lead role either that of a zombie or a soldier, similar to his role as Army Captain Yoo in “Descendants of the Sun.”
Yeon Sang Ho, director of “Train to Busan 2” has yet to confirm if Lee Min Ho and Song Joong-ki would be part of the sequel. It would not be surprising for Song Joong-ki to get a meaty role since the producer of the movie is also Next Entertainment World (NEW) which also produced “Descendants of the Sun.”
The sequel is co-produced with Hollywood studios Sony Pictures and 2oth Century Fox. The original has a box-office of $8.52 million, making it the most successful Chinese language movie after it surpassed “Cold War 2.”
