DJ Alesso teams up with EXO frontman Chen for the South Korean version of "Years". The new EDM single has been released by SM STATION on Oct. 7.
A Soompi article revealed this was a cover of Alesso's "progressive house track" "Years" which was originally performed by singer Matthew Koma.
The song's reworked version was produced as an EDM track and made possible by a collaboration with SM STATION and SM Entertainment's EDM label ScreaM Records.
According to Yahoo! Music, the new K-pop EDM single has been released while Alesso was in Shanghai, China to attend the IMS Asia-Pacific.
The news website also added, this was not the first time the widely acclaimed DJ had reworked a song. Last April, he did "I Wanna Know" replacing original vocals of Norwegian duo Nico and Vinz with Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai.
Prior to the release of the new EDM track, SM Entertainment teased fans with a teaser image together with the hashtags "#SMSTATION #1007 @Alesso #CHEN '#Years' #These #Will #Be #The #Years #ScreaMRecords.#AlessoChenCollaboration" on their Twitter account.
This was followed by a preview video which featured Alesso in a fan meeting at the SMTOWN Atrium while Chen's voice played in the background.
In addition to the audio track, SM STATION also released an animated kaleidoscope music video which showed an alternate of English and Korean lyrics.
DJ Alesso, a Swedish DJ and record producer, is widely acclaimed for his music collaborations with talented musicians like Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Usher and Madonna. He also has performed in big music events like "Ultra Music Festival" and "Coachella".
Meanwhile, EXO member Chen is known for his powerful vocals and has rendered a number OSTs for hit South Korean dramas such as "Descendants of the Sun" and "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo".
Korea Portal, a digital platform for South Korean-related news, reported this is that "Years" by Alesso and Chen is the 35th soundtrack from SM Entertainment digital music project, "SM STATION", which releases new music every Friday since its debut last February.
