It will not be long before fans can see the next installment of "Reply" series. Following the news that the makers are now gearing up for the fourth season, speculations are rife that AOA's Seolhyun, whose real name is Kim Seol-hyun, could star in the next installment.
Talks about Seolhyun as the next female lead started after Sung Dong-il, who portrayed the abrupt yet caring father in the past three season, stated that he wanted the AOA member to be his next daughter. While many are glad about it, some fans did not buy it as no official announcement has yet been made.
It came days after producing director Shin Won-Ho shared a substantial amount of new details about the fourth season during a live session with the cast and production team of "Reply 1988" at the tvN10 Awards on Oct. 9, Sunday. He revealed that his team is looking to release the newest edition to the "Reply" series in 2017.
"I've just finished working on the DVD for 'Reply 1988'," Soompi quoted PD Shin as saying during the tvN10 Awards before a predominantly Korean crowd. "Now I am getting ready for the preparations next year for the next 'Reply' series installment."
The background and setting of the next installment and many other specifics have yet to be decided on. While it is obscure what generation they plan to go to next, a survey previously conducted showed that the majority of netizens wanted to return to the year of 1980.
"Reply 1988" received both critical and audience acclaim with its final episode recording 18.8 percent in viewership ratings. Due to its immense success, "Reply 1988" was honored with the most prestigious award, called the Content Grand Excellence Award (Daesang), for being tvN's best drama, Yonhap News Agency reported.
The third installment also swept the board in several other categories. Park Bo-Gum, who portrayed Choi Taek in the series, won the Asia Star Award. The award for Trending Actress and Trending Actor were given to Lee Hye-Ri and Ryu Jun-Yeol, respectively, while veteran stars Ra Mi-Ran and Kim Sung-Kyung was respectively honored with the Best Scene Stealer Actress and Actor award.
