"Avengers: Infinity War" is the highly anticipated battle royal in Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 3. Aside from the current Avengers roster, many of the MCU's characters are expected to join the fun.
Benedict Cumberbatch has yet to make his theatrical debut as Doctor Strange, but he has reportedly signed up for "Avengers: Infinity War." In an interview with Empire, the British actor hinted that he's going to work with the rest of Avengers after "Doctor Strange."
When asked what was next for the Sorcerer Supreme, Cumberbatch said, "Logistical challenge of aligning his schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany."
The actors he mentioned, of course, are current members of Avengers. "To get us all together will be quite something," he added. "That's why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter.
The earlier part of the MCU focused on building the core foundation of the entire universe. It also leaned towards the more human side of the story and mankind's interaction with extraterrestrial beings.
Going into Phase 3, the MCU is setting the stage for more supernatural elements. Doctor Strange is the first superhero introduced whose many powers include magic. "Thor" tried to incorporate some magic in his junction, but the studio felt it was better to keep things uniformed to the realm of sci-fi before exploring other abilities.
Aside from Doctor Strange, another familiar face is also joining "Avengers: Infinity War." Evangeline Lilly will reprise her role as Hope van Dyne, a.k.a Wasp in the movie. Speaking to Blastr, Lilly revealed that "Avengers: Infinity Wars" will come in two parts, but her character is only going to appear in the second since the studio will have to wait for the big reveal in "Ant-Man and the Wasp."
She added that "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is basically an original story for Wasp. "We're going to see [her] for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit, and fly about, and do her thing," Lilly said.
"Avengers: Infinity War" is set for an April 25, 2018 release. On the other hand, "Doctor Stranger" hits theaters this Oct. 26.
