WWE RAW - Chris Jericho will reportedly have a big role in the Universal Title rematch between his champion buddy Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins at Hell in a Cell on October 30.
According to SB Nation wrestling blog - Cageside Seats, the original plan was to have Jericho vs. Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens triple-threat match for the WWE Universal Championship in the upcoming PPV event.
However, WWE eventually dropped Mr. Y2J from the title picture for the time being to give way for a Hell in a Cell showdown between Rollins and Owens.
Nevertheless, Jericho will be making his presence felt in the title match, just what he did at Clash of Champions. Rumors are high that Jericho will be assigned as the special referee in the match.
Per Report by Cageside Seats:
"The reason the Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins Universal match was put in Hell in a Cell is because WWE thought it would look lesser if it wasn't in the Cell like the women's and US title matches.
Chris Jericho was dropped from plans for that match so it could be in Hell in a Cell, although he could still get involved in some way, like special guest referee."
Lead up to All-Canadian battle at Survivor Series
Putting Jericho in the Universal title match at Hell in a Cell would be a big step towards hyping a rumored Survivor Series showdown between Y2J and Owens.
For the past several weeks, Jericho has been earnestly playing the role of a 'true friend' to Owens, helping him win matches here and there. On the other hand, Owens hasn't shown any commitment to his partnership with the six-time world champ, as he often left Jericho hanging when things got out of hand.
Last week on RAW, Jericho was given a chance to get his place in the Universal title match, if he was able to beat Rollins, which went unsuccessful. For the second straight week, Owens decided to back out from the fray and let Jericho take all the beating from a raging Seth Rollins.
Jericho's eventual participation in the title match at Hell in a Cell would surely trigger speculations of a face turn for Mr. Y2J, although it's not guaranteed it will happen in the PPV.
The ideal time for Jericho to turn his back on his buddy is the night after the PPV event on RAW, where he can hit Owens with a code breaker and then stake his claim on the title.
