A new high-end Samsung Chromebook with a touch screen and stylus has been leaked on the web. The pre-order pages showed images of a premium laptop before the South Korean conglomerate officially announced the portable computer. Key features of the Chromebook Pro include a 360-degree rotatable display, average storage space, and possibly Android app support.
ChromeUnboxed first noticed the new images. The Chrome OS site verified summer rumors of a Samsung laptop nicknamed "Kevin."
In fact, the site found the new Chromebook model in multiple retailer listings. ChromeUnboxed received a hot tip about a product listing for the new device on B&H, while it also showed up on a landing page for the Chrome device.
The new Chromebook Pro reportedly includes a 12.3-inch 2400-pixel x 1600-pixel touchscreen, 32GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and a stylus pen, according to The Verge. The Chrome OS device also includes a svelte "full metal" body of just .5 inches (12.9 mm), and 10 hours of battery life.
The pen is one of the key features of the Google-powered laptop as it could turn the small computer into a drawing tablet. The product listing suggested the Chrome OS device would be pre-installed with the ArtCanvas app so artists would have a free tool to make digital art.
Samsung's Chromebook strategy has focused on budget laptops until now. Its Chromebook Series 3 released in 2012 features a slim and light design, ARM processor, and low price.
The new Chromebook Pro was available for pre-order at Adorama for $499 but it seems the page was taken down.
A $499 price tag is high for a Chrome OS device and especially when compared to the processing power of similar computers including the HP Chromebook 13. It would still be a good choice for fans of Android apps.
An official release date has not been listed for the Samsung Chromebook Pro. However, ChromeUnboxed reported a B&H product page claiming the release date was October 24, Monday.
