AMD Zen chips and processors are shaping up to be a formidable competitor against Intel products in 2017 as the X370 AM4 motherboards are expected to ship by the end of 2016.
The company is expected to reveal the AMD Zen products including the new AM4 motherboards during the Consumer Electronics Show or CES 2017 in Las Vegas. AMD could unveil the power of Zen during the said event which is slated to start on January 3 up to January 8 in 2017.
Intel processors have always been the preference for most PC builders because they have the most powerful chips to date in both enterprise and consumer grade devices. The first AMD Zen processors to be revealed by the company will be the Summit Ridge type along wth the X370 chipsets, Headlines & Global News has learned.
Summit Ridge is expected to be the consumer grade AMD Zen processors that will be capable of high-end gaming along with the new Vega 10 and Vega 11 GPUs which are also expected to be launched in 2017. NVIDIA currently has the upper hand in the high-end video cards market with their Pascal GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 models plus the new Titan X.
AMD Zen will also take on the Enterprise market with their chips' new SME and SEV security features, WCCFTech reported. Secure Memory Encryption and Secure Encrypted Virtualization will help enterprises protect their databases that run on servers using the new chipsets from AMD.
Virtualized servers are increasingly becoming common through cloud hosts as they are more affordable and flexible compared to just hosting on a physical server. The virtual servers adjust accordingly the load it receives and no bandwidth is wasted.
The problem is that virtual servers are unsecure because the data could be hacked. With the new AMD Zen enterprise chips, the SME and SEV features will help servers protect the data.
Both features are not present in any Intel processors and it could be the advantage for AMD Zen. As for the casual gaming users, the jury is still out on whether it will have new features to prevent bottlenecks with any kind of video cards for the AM4 PCIE 3.0 motherboards.
