Fresh rumors have it that the "Winds of Winter" release date, expected to happen March 2017, will not only be delayed but will be cancelled altogether. The reason: "Game of Thrones" creator George R.R. Martin has reportedly lost the WoW manuscript he has been working on for year, a new report said.
The promised Winds of Winter book debut before the Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere in June 2017 is unlikely to happen, according to Game 'N' Guide, which picked up on a fresh rumor that floated the idea of GRRM has actually lost the book manuscript. The suggestion stemmed from an earlier report that Martin had again sued for more time to complete his work on the upcoming instalment of the epic "A Song of Ice and Fire".
GRRM supposedly asked his publisher to reschedule the Winds of Winter release in 2018 or long after GoT Season 7 has been wrapped up. Previously, Martin and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have indicated that the remaining GoT seasons will be based on GRRM's latest book. There will be no repeat of what happened this 2016 when Game of Thrones Season 6 outpaced its supposed source - that is the Winds of Winter.
But if the rumors that Martin has lost possession of the WoW manuscript will prove correct, then the author will have to start all over and that would mean longer waiting time for the book release. In an earlier report, Game 'N' Guide said that the new chapter of ASOIAF runs the risk of being cancelled and this latest update is possibly the cause.
The same reports, however, have made clear that the cancellation and the lost manuscript remain in the rumor zone - nothing is confirmed at the moment. And iDigitalTimes tend to believe that the claims will stay as they are - rumors.
In a related report, the publication said that it's unthinkable that Martin and his publisher will just give up on Winds of Winter and throw everything away. It may be that the author lost the manuscript of the book but it is certain that a backup copy exists in a remote server. These latest rumors all but nonsense, the report said.
What is certain though is the likelihood of the Winds of Winter release date being pushed back because "it's always like this with GRRM's books. He's always super slow, people always wonder if he's working on it at all," iDigitalTimes said, adding that "the book will come out sooner or later (all signs point to later)."
