"American Crime Story" will return with more episodes in 2018. FX has officially renewed the anthology series for Season 3, while also announcing that the new installment will focus its lens on the murder of Italian designer, Gianni Versace.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Versace-themed third season of "American Crime Story" will be based on the book "Vulgar Favors," penned by Vanity Fair's Maureen Orth. The new season will run for 10 episodes and is being eyed to premiere in 2018. On casting, the report said that producers are still looking to cast the lead roles.
The plot will follow the 1997 murder case of Gianni Versace, the legendary fashion designer who was shot dead by serial killer Andrew Cunanan in his Miami Beach mansion. Versace was Cunanan's fifth and final victim. The latter committed suicide inside a house boat as the Miami Dade police tried to capture him.
Production for Season 3 will begin shooting next spring in Los Angeles and Miami, with series creator Ryan Murphy set to direct the season opener. It will shoot concurrently with Season 2, which will deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
"We've been researching it quite heavily for a year before we're even writing it," Murphy told the publication in August.
"You follow a cast of characters from before the storm hits to its aftermath, and we're spending a lot of time, energy and resources on it."
"American Crime Story" Season 2, which will run for a total of 13-15 episodes, will launch sometime in 2017 on FX. It brings viewers a front seat view of the stories behind some of America's gruesome and prolific criminal cases in history with little twists to ensure entertainment.
