Pop artist Katy Perry is set to perform at a star-studded gala event at T-mall on Nov. 11.
The event is sponsored by Alibaba Group as part of its 11.11 Global Shopping Festival. Perry is expected to kick off the festival, which is billed as "11.11 Countdown Gala Celebration."
The American pop sensation is scheduled to perform "Rise," a song that was released for the recently concluded Rio Olympics.
Aside from being selected as one of the main performers for the event, Perry has also been named as Alibaba's global ambassador "to promote the gala worldwide and bring attention to what is China's largest shopping day of the year," the e-commerce giant said in a statement.
"Katy Perry uses her music to inspire positivity among her audience," Alibaba said, noting that the singer's popularity "perfectly fits the theme of the 11.11 gala."
Perry, known as Shui Guo Jie or "Fruit Sister" in China because of her bright and colorful outfits, visited the country for the first time last year. She performed in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Macau for her Prismatic World Tour.
In a video interview, the 31-year-old singer said that she is excited to be the ambassador for Tmall's festival and encouraged her fans who could not make it to the event to watch her performance on Zhejiang TV instead.
Alibaba announced that its second annual countdown gala will be directed by Hollywood producer David Hill, who worked on NFL Super Bowls, American Idol and the Oscars.
Aside from Perry, Alibaba said more stars will be joining the gala but the final lineup is yet to be revealed.
Perry was also in China last month when she visited her current boyfriend Orlando Bloom, who was shooting a film at the time. During her visit, Perry went to Shanghai Disneyland and posted pictures of her tour on Instagram.
