Apple's new iPhone 7 models have been recently criticized for having the smaller variants slower than their larger counterparts and now some iPhone 7 Plus models reportedly have poor 4G reception due to Intel chips.
Not all of the iPhone 7 Plus models have slow download and upload speeds for the mobile data connection. Only those models that used the Intel modem chips have been found to perform worse than their Qualcomm counterparts.
Earlier reports suggested that the 32GB iPhone 7 models had slower read and write speeds for the internal storage compared to a 128GB or 256GB variant. Now, there is also a difference between those iPhone 7 Plus models sold outside of the United States, Japan and China which used Intel chips.
Cellular Insights have done some tests to see reception quality and speeds for the iPhone 7 Plus models and found out that the ones with Intel modems had poorer network performance under not so ideal conditions, Trusted Reviews has learned. Both did provide the same quality if the conditions were optimal.
Apple did not use non-Qualcomm parts for their iPhones and the iPhone 7 is the first exception. It seems like the Intel decision was not a good one considering the negative feedback those models are receiving now due to the poor connection.
There are also other features that are not present in the iPhone 7 Plus with Intel modem chips which makes it worse besides the network performance alone, Mac World reported. Some of the not supported features include the Ultra HD Voice and Enhanced Voice Services which aim to increase the clarity of the users' phone calls.
The Cupertino-based tech giant has not yet commented on the reports. Some fans are now outraged seeing as Apple seems to have cut corners with the iPhone 7.
Cellular Insight's report stated: " We are not sure what was the main reason behind Apple's decision to source two different modem suppliers for the newest iPhone."
There are still some ways to get the iPhone 7 Plus models with Qualcomm chips but that would involve paying for expensive shipping fees. Users who want them can buy them from online stores that have the US versions of the smartphone from Apple.
