Chicago Cubs Curse Finally Over
The Chicago Cubs have finally freed themselves from one of the most memorable curses in sports lore. Since 1945 the Wrigley field faithful has believed they had been cursed by Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis. Sianis declared that "Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more," After he was apparently asked to leave Wrigley field with his pet goat who was offending other paying customers with its odor.
Fast-forward 71 years to what will now be known as the curse-breaking game six.
The Cubs offense came out aggressive and got to Clayton Kershaw for a couple of early runs. Then both Anthony Rizzo and Wilson Contreras both hit solo jacks off of the most dominating left-handed pitcher in the game today. Kershaw incidentally had only given eight long balls all year.
The team that scored first won every game in the series.
Kyle Hendricks who had the lowest ERA in all of the National League this year used the early cushion and simply dealt a well-pitched masterpiece, keeping the Dodger's scoreless for 7 1/3 innings. Hendricks faced the minimum through seven innings in route to a 5-0 victory.
Chicago won its third straight game against the Dodgers to close out the National League Championship Series and will advance to play the Cleveland Indians in the World Series, which will begin Tuesday night in Cleveland.
Both teams have had a long drought in terms of collecting the World Series trophy.
The Cubs haven't won the World Series since 1908 and the Cleveland Indians haven't been to the World Series since 1948.
The Indians will be well rested awaiting the Cubbies arrival. The Cubs will celebrate until the wee hours of the night after finally getting out of the shadow of the dreaded curse. Finally, the Classic awaits them.
The only curse the Cubs have now is being a team that has won 103 games this year, the most in baseball.
With being the best team in baseball comes expectations.
