"Quantico" Season 2 gave fans a look at the different dynamics in Alex and Ryan's relationship, as well as their separation. Some viewers have been hoping that the break-up is not real, but the ABC series' showrunner revealed a different scenario.
Many fans have been clamoring for Alex (Priyanka Chopra) and Ryan's (Jake McLaughlin) happy ending. However, earlier episodes in "Quantico" Season 2 have featured the couple's separation. In an exclusive interview with Hollywood Life, showrunner Josh Safran explained that Alex and Ryan's break-up is a necessary plot development.
Unlike the ABC series' first season, the two characters' relationship in Season 2 is very different from their earlier romance. Gone are the days when the two would have argued with each other until their differences would force them apart.
With the couple's recent split, viewers will soon learn the truth behind Alex and Ryan's separation in the show's future timeline. The couple's break-up will also play an important part in the two characters' story arc, according to Safran.
Meanwhile, Safran also shared a similar comment in a TV Guide interview where he highlighted the changes in Alex and Ryan's relationship. The showrunner made mention of the two characters' growth and maturity, as compared to their relationship during the ABC series' Season 1.
"Quantico" Season 2 featured a storyline where both characters came to an understanding that needed to focus on their mission first before exploring a potential happy ending with other. A scene in an earlier Season 2 episode showed Alex thanking Ryan for telling her about his worries and the reason why he wanted them to break apart.
Safran stated that despite the two lovebirds' decision to separate during the show's present timeline, Alex and Ryan were "very tied together." However, that may soon change given the different challenges that they may face in The Farm.
Despite the sad scenario, Safran revealed that the two characters' break-up scene was one of his favorite moments in "Quantico" Season 2. Chopra also did a great job in portraying Alex's emotions during the said moment, according to the showrunner.
