Microsoft is unlikely to announce any of the rumored Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 on the company's scheduled October 26 event. Instead, the focus will be on the purported Windows 10 all-in-one desktop that is codenamed Surface Cardinal. But according to new reports, the device's official name will be Surface Studio.
The label, according to BGR, was dug out by known trademark hunter Brian Conroy. The Slovenian documents that Conroy has unearthed suggested that Microsoft will sell its in-house all-in-one Windows 10 desktop not as Surface AIO but as Surface Studio.
As expected, the Surface Studio is Microsoft's answer to the new iMac that is rumored to introduce this week.
Conroy's discovery seems to align with an earlier report by Microsoft insider Mary Jo Foley. Foley said in a report via ZDNet that a new hardware from the Windows maker is tipped to transform users' work station into a studio.
In the same report, Foley revealed that the desktop AIO was codenamed Cardinal and it's nearly certain that the hardware will unbox with a different name.
And going by the numerous device labels that Conroy has stumbled on, which include Surface Laptop and Surface Dial, it seems more logical that Microsoft will pick Surface Studio as the final name for the upcoming Windows 10 AIO PC.
The Foley report also claimed that Microsoft will not reveal any other Surface devices this week as the Project Rio event will be used to unveil OEM devices to highlight the fresh and upcoming features of Windows 10. Essentially, the chance of fans seeing the rumored Surface Pro 5, Surface Book 2 and even the Surface Phone before yearend has been reduced to zero.
Reports have indicated that the next batch of Surface mobile devices is not slated to come out until 2017. And Foley agreed, confirming that "the expected Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5 aren't likely to get their big reveals until spring 2017."
The rumored Surface Phone is unlikely to appear too until the later part of 2017 as the same report said that all new Surface devices will be used by Microsoft to showcase the Redstone 2 Update for Windows 10, which is expected to arrive within the second half of next year.
