Ahead of its premiere, Discovery Canada announced that they are renewing Jason Momoa starrer "Frontier" for a second season. The upcoming historical drama is slated to debut on Nov. 6 on Discovery Canada.
Created by Peter Blackie and Rob Blackie, "Frontier" follows the brutal battle to control the wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 1800s. Told from different perspectives, the series will further explore the fragile relations between the Europeans and native tribes.
Ahead of its official release, the Discovery Canada-produced original gets a commitment for another season, Deadline has learned. The second-season order is for six episodes.
In a press statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Discovery Canada's Vice-President and General Manager Ken MacDonald said that the early second-season order is a testament to their confidence in "Frontier's" world-class storytelling.
"As we started to see this cinematic, well-cast and meticulously produced series come to life as we'd dared imagine for season one, we knew we'd created a uniquely immersive world," MacDonald added. "And the story that begged for expansion to a second season."
In the upcoming historical drama, the "Game of Thrones" alum will star as an ambitious and untamed man, Declan Harp. Driven by desire and revenge, he has a reputation for being a ruthless trader.
Other stars include Alun Armstrong as Lord Benton, Allan Hawco as Douglas Brown, Landon Liboiron as Michael Smyth, Jessica Matten as Sokanon and Diana Bentley as Imogen. It is co-produced by Take the Shot Productions and Factory Backwards.
In other news, fans can see Momoa in the upcoming superhero film "Justice League" alongside Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher. He plays the king of the undersea nation of Atlantis, Arthur Curry aka Aquaman.
