"Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" is probably the mother of all sequel. When someone compares another movie sequel to "The Empire Strikes Back," expectations run super high. Such is the case of "Jurassic World 2," which is being likened to the classic sci-fi blockbuster.
"Jurassic World 2" director J.A. Bayona teased about what's to come in the sequel, saying it's going to be "darker and scarier" than the first film. "Obviously when you have Chris Pratt, it will also be very funny. But it will be darker," Bayona revealed, Scified reports. "It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark as in 'The Empire Strikes back or the 'Wrath of Khan,' which are the examples you always get."
Bayona promised to take the dinosaur franchise to the next level, taking the story "where it has never been before." Although he did not reveal much about the "Jurassic World 2" plot at least one thing's for sure: Chris Pratt is definitely reprising his role as Owen Grady.
Even so, there are already speculations about what might happen in "Jurassic World 2." Taking cues from the events of the previous film, in which Vincent D'Onofrio's Vic Hoskins insisted to weaponize the raptors Pratt's Owen had been training, it's like the second film could take this route.
"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That'll get old real fast," "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow told Wired UK. He added that the movie franchise might venture into the whole science behind the creation of dinosaurs in place of the theme park concept that has driven the franchise ever since its first breath.
"What if this went open source? It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?" Trevorrow teased.
For now, it's safe to say that the movie will not be constricted the island setting where dinosaurs run amuck and cause havoc. Also, there's also the likelihood of having other companies racing to make dinosaurs a viable weapon. A whopping $260 million is reportedly being allotted for "Jurassic World 2." With that said, anything is possible.
"Jurassic World 2" is expected to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
