The Los Angeles Police Department said it had arrested Jamie Otis, the man who used a pick ax to destroy Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Oct. 26.
It wasn't a tough job for the cops since Otis gave his full name to media at the site that took videos of him vandalizing the star of the Republican Party's presidential candidate, infamous in this liberal town for his racist and misogynistic views. Trump's start is located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd near the Dolby Theater.
Otis' attack on the star was the latest since January. Some persons have petitioned the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the organization that maintains the 2,500 Stars, to remove Trump's. One person erected a tiny wall topped by tiny razor wire to protest Trump's plan to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico if elected.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame consists of more than 2,500 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California.
Otis' attack was the most severe on Trump's star, however.
Dressed as a city construction worker and wielding a sledgehammer and pick-ax, Otis began tearing down Trump's star at around 5:45 a.m. on Oct. 26.
Otis gave his name to media organizations that were on site at the time. He said he planned to auction off Trump's star on Election Day (Nov. 8) in New York to raise funds for the women who recently come forward to accuse Trump of sexually assaulting them over the decades.
LAPD said Otis was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism.
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president Leron Gubler said the association will replace the star immediately but that the work would take several days to complete.
He added that the association intends to prosecute Otis to the full extent of the law, an action they will undertake "for any Walk of Fame star that has been vandalized."
