"The Winds of Winter" may have been taking too much time in the making as it has been delayed long enough, but it certainly is coming.
It is undeniable that George R.R. Martin has a perfect example of the adage "slowly but surely" as his most- awaited novel "The Winds of Winter" has no release date yet. Nevertheless, fans are very positive that it will come out some time in 2017, even if the author does not give any updates as to the progress in the making of the book.
Nevertheless, rumor has it that the book is currently in the proofreading stage, although there are also claims that it is still in the draft stage.
Aside from Martin's acceptance that the novel takes too long because he really is a slow writer, it seems that there is another reason behind the delays. According to reports, Martin is actually working on a prequel book, which details the history of Westeros before the "Games of Thrones," although the author has not directly confirmed this yet.
Aside from the prequel, he is also contemplating on merging the futuristic West and Westeros according to Jonathan Nolan, co-creator of Westeros.
Previously, it was confirmed that the book will be released only after the release of "The Games of Thrones" Season 7, which is scheduled to premiere some time in summer next year. However, a leak on the plot of the "Games of Thrones" forces producers to rewrite the Season 7.
Recent reports suggest that "The Games of Thrones" Season 7 will feature the most awaited face-off between King Jon and Queen Daenerys, as it will be revealed that the former is a pure-blooded Targaryen and that the two will engage in an incestuous sexual relationship.
Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that "The Winds of Winter" will be the last release in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. This means that "A Dream of Spring," which was said to be released after "The Winds of Winter," is already cancelled for a simple reason that Martin thinks that old age already catches up with him.
