Three years after the last "Iron Man" was filmed, fans are now wondering if the show will ever see another sequel. Currently, Marvel has been quiet about "Iron Man 4." The bigger question on "Iron Man" lovers is whether or not Robert Downey Jr. will retake his role as the brash but brilliant industrialist Tony Stark.
It is reported that there is a chance that Downey may not return to play the superhero role again because of his other commitments. The actor's net worth is of $180 million and though it does not make him the richest actor in Hollywood, his recent financial run has been unrivaled, Huffington Post reported. Downey is rumored to appear in "Sherlock Holmes 3," which led to speculations saying that the actor opted to do the private detective show over the next robot superhero installment.
According to IMDb, Downey is expected to start filming for "Sherlock Holmes 3" after he is finishes shooting the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" movie. Therefore, his schedule is packed, which suggests that the "Iron Man 4" may not be his top priority.
Downey is rumored to let go his previous role because of a lack of mutual consensus between the "Avengers" actor and the producer. It is said that the two parties did not agree in terms of his pay. However, Downey may just be retiring from the role because of his old age and overall situation.
In addition, the Marvel's Phase 3 movie lineup is noted to miss any solo film with Downey. The confirmed films for now are "Black Panther" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp." Both films are scheduled for release sometime in 2018.
Moreover, Marvel is said to be making an announcement of the three more movies for 2020. Unfortunately, nothing is sure yet though, "Iron Man 4" could be part of the list.
It is also suggested that for the fourth installment, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will follow the comic book storylines. If this comes to be, the film may feature a young girl named Riri Williams. The rumors should be taken with a grain of salt for nothing has been confirmed or official yet.
