Roger Federer is the best to ever play the sport, and no other tennis players will better what the Swiss Maestro has been doing, according to Feliciano Lopez.
Feliciano Lopez believes the end of an era has already begun, with Federer not competing at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the first time since 2001. Federer's recent injuries has played a major role in his struggles this season, but Lopez is convinced no one can top the 17-time Grand Slam winner in playing tennis.
"Although there will be another one who will win more, Federer marked an era with his game-style, regardless of the titles won. There won't be anyone able to play tennis like Federer does," Feliciano told El Espanol via Tennis World USA.
Federer is set to return at the Tour next year after he fully recovers from a re-injured knee sustained at Wimbledon. The Basel native is scheduled to open his 2017 season at the Australian Open, where he initially suffered the knee injury earlier this year.
It remains to be seen whether Federer would be able to compete at a high level once again, but the 35-year-old Swiss has always been positive about his much-anticipated comeback in the tennis scene.
Federer, who has yet to win another major title since conquering Wimbledon back in 2012, insisted he aims to win many more Grand Slam titles and get back atop the ATP World Rankings after slipping down the leaderboard from No. 3 to No. 16, although it is something not too important for Federer at this point of his career.
"The goal is to be as stronger as ever in December before coming back better than what people expect," Federer said via Tennis World USA.
"My dream is to keep winning Grand Slam events and comeback at the top of the rankings, but when they ask me if I will play in 2018, I reply that I hope it's the case, but first of all I have to play five tournaments in a row and without physical issues, because the most important thing is to be in good shape for more than one tournament."
