The 12 members boy group, EXO, was a big winner during this year's Melon Music Awards, taking home five awards in total. The prestigious event took place in Gocheok SkyDome, Seoul, South Korea on Oct. 19, Saturday.
The annual Melon Music Awards is a star-studded event, where many of the gifted Kpop groups and idols were recognized for their various accomplishments. Presented by Kakao, some of the big winners included EXO, BTS, and Twice.
EXO snagged five awards: Netizen Choice, Top 10, Kakao Hot Star Award, Dance (Male), the Best Artist of The Year award, Yonhap News Agency reported. The group was also honored with the most prestigious award called Daesang, making them the first Kpop group to complete the trifecta of winning 3 Daesangs at the annual event.
Speaking before a predominantly Korean crowd, EXO's Kai stated the group will continue enhancing their dance performance. The group then promised EXO-L that they will become artists that their fans can be proud of, while Suho expressed how he wanted EXO to be like Sechs Kies' who can be with their fans for a long time.
Beside EXO, Bangtan Boys aka BTS also took home the Best Album of the Year for "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever" album. In tears, BTS' leader Rap Monster stated it was the best award the group ever received since they debuted.
Further, the girl group TWICE took home the Best Song of the Year award for their latest single "Cheer Up." Other winners of the Top 10 awards are Akdong Musician, GFriend, Block B's Zico, GFriend, Mamamoo, Red Velvet, BewhY and Girls' Generation member Taeyeon, as per Soompi.
The rest of the winners include BLACKPINK as the Best New Artist, GFriend as the Best Dance Artist (Female), iKON as the Tencent-QQ Music Asia Star and Seventeen as MBC Music Star. Zico was also honored with the Hot Trend Award and a Hall of Fame award for Sechs Kies. The Best OST award was given to "Descendants of the Sun's" "Always" by Yoon Mi-Rae.
