Although Huawei just launched its Mate 9 smartphone a few weeks ago, the company did not let opportunity pass to announce a watered-down version of the original, the Mate 9 Lite. Though some of its specifications is expected to be a bit lower than the mother version, the upcoming variant will retain the rear dual camera setup using lower megapixel ratings.
Physically, the Lite version has front and back aluminum panels with curved edges, while its 5.5-inch display has a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 ppi. Its front camera boasts an 8 MP lens which users could use as a selfie camera. On the other hand, the rear-facing one utilizes a dual setup of 12MP and 2MP, Digital Trends reported.
While the main 12MP camera has phase detection and autofocus features with pixel microns of around 1.25, the 2MP camera is useful for understanding depth, Digit India reported. In terms of computing power, the Mate 9 Lite is packed with a 2.1 GHz octa-core Kirin 655 processor with a powerful 3GB or 4GB RAM.
Though the Lite's storage can either be as large as 32GB or 64GB, its internal storage cannot be expanded. Despite its limited storage capability, the Lite version is packed with 3,340 mAh battery which could make it last throughout the day.
Overall, the Lite series is a mid-range version of the original Mate 9, retaining its physical look while downgrading some of its specifications a bit. Despite the adjustment, the Mate 9 Lite was not deprived of its mother version's remarkable feature, the rear dual-camera setup.
In addition to the lower camera rating, the Lite is packed with an older Android 6.0 Marshmallow version based on EMUI 4.1. Once the Chinese tech-company launches Lite, it will be available in gold, gray and silver color variants. The mid-range smart phone is only 8.2 mm thick and weighs only 162 grams, figures acceptable for a full metal smartphone.
As of the moment, its official release date has not been announced by Huawei. Readers are advised to stay updated as more information will be available in the coming weeks.
