After her failed marriage with Ragnar and her succeeding relationships with men, it seems that Shield Maiden Lagertha has had enough of the male species. In the upcoming "Vikings" Season 4B, Lagertha will have a new lover, a woman named Astrid.

"Vikings" creator Michael Hirst previously teased that after having terrible relationships with men, Lagertha has developed trust issues. Ragnar cheated on her, while her second husband was abusive and Kalf tried to usurp her throne.

"I'm not sure she will ever trust a man again," actress Katheryn Winnick tells Out Magazine about her character's development in the second half of the fourth season. "So it did make sense that she would find comfort in another human being and that that human being happened to be a woman. I don't feel that Lagertha necessarily is a lesbian; I never played it that way. But she did find a love with Astrid that men have never been able to give her."

Winnick reveals that Lagertha and Astrid's relationship will have been for more than six or seven years when we see them in the new episodes. Lagertha grooms Astrid, who is said to be younger than her, to become a warrior. This shows that their relationship is not necessarily sexual, but is "more of an emotional bond."

Furthermore, Winnick describes Astrid as someone who is very comforting to Lagertha and that that the former has no other motive than to care for the latter.

Lagertha's relationship with another woman, Aslaug, will also come into play in "Vikings" Season 4B. Aslaug and Lagertha has never seen eye to eye, and Lagertha has never forgiven Aslaug for stealing Ragnar away from her.

"I will never forgive you for taking away my husband, my world, and my happiness," Lagertha tells Aslaug in one heated confrontation in "Vikings" Season 4B. According to Entertainment Weekly, Lagertha doesn't consider Aslaug an effective leader of Kattegat. Thus, Lagertha will "take back control of Kattegat... and she feels that she is doing the right thing by reclaiming it."

Winnick describes Lagertha and Aslaug's big scene as "pretty epic" and "memorable."

"Vikings" Season 4 will resume on History on Nov. 30.
