As episode 11 of "Vikings" Season 4 premieres on Nov. 30, a synopsis for the upcoming episode was already released. According to the excerpt, King Ragnar will be returning to Kattegat. After a long time of being away from his children, his son Bjorn emerged as the new leader of their clan, but Ivar will be trained by Ragnar to become the next Viking leader.
It can be recalled during the first part of the season that Ragnar was unsuccessful in defeating his brother Rollo, in Paris. This has sent the people of Kattegat lose respect for their king after being humiliated in a lost combat, according to a released synopsis by History.
"Ragnar has returned to Kattegat and there are secrets to be revealed. He makes plans to return to Wessex to right past wrongs but finds that those who were once his closest allies now have plans of their own. Even the Lothbrok sons refuse to join their father's mission - except one."
As soon as Ragnar returns, with his sons all grown up, they are unlikely to come aid to their father except for one, Ivar the Boneless. Although at first, Ragnar did not believe that a child with disability could be an asset in their kingdom, he will soon realize that Ivar's mental ability has the capacity to make him a true Viking leader.
Upon realizing this, Ragnar will be taking care of his son and groom him to become the next Viking leader. According to executive producer Michael Hirst, Ivar will be the star this season and in the upcoming one, Hollywood Reporter reported.
"He is compulsively watchable just in the same way Travis is. His role is fantastic, he'll challenge the audience because Ivar is well known as someone who was very extreme and very cool and yet he was a cripple."
Hirst added that although the character would be a magnet of a lot of sympathy, he will soon emerge as the big star by the time he tries to push beyond his boundaries. "He's very challenging and he's really going to emerge as one of the big stars of this show."
