AMD is still silent about the Radeon RX 490 video card. However, many are speculating that it will actually be a dual chip GPU and could come before the year ends.
The AMD Radeon RX 480 failed to beat the GTX 1080 or the GTX 1070 from NVIDIA. However, the Radeon RX 490 might actually be cheaper and better than NVIDIA's cards today.
AMD's roadmap for their GPU shows only a tiny distance between the Polaris and Vega GPU while the latter could be seen positioned at the start of 2017 or at the end of 2016, Bit-Tech reported. This led to speculations that the RX 490 could launch in December regardless of whether it will be powered by the Polaris or Vega GPU.
While there has been no confirmation yet from AMD, their own website accidentally listed the Radeon RX 490 as one of their products in July 2017. The listing has been taken down but the slip-up from AMD themselves more or less confirms the existence of the video card.
AMD could launch and release the Radeon RX 490 video card at the same day in December, WCCFTech reported. Details regarding the RX 490 specs are still vague, but most believe that it will come close to the GTX 1080 with the capability to run games at 4K.
The AMD Radeon RX 490 would also be another VR-ready card from the company. Fans expect that it would be powered either by the dual Polaris 10 GPU or the Vega 10 GPU. More are leaning towards the speculations of the card using a Polaris chip considering that the Vega GPU will be launched in 2017 instead.
Another evidence that points to the RX 490 being powered by a dual Polaris 10 GPU instead is the Zuba shipping manifest, according to Bit-Tech. The insurance for the card was shown to be double compared to other cards in the market.
With only a month until the end of 2016, AMD could still surprise fans with an announcement of the Radeon RX 490. Price and final specs could also be expected soon.
